Most accidents are caused by speeding Matatus and every single day Kenyans sit meekly, praying as the Matatu operators treat them like trash.
Matatu drivers and conductors treat their passengers like disposable tissue paper. They are rude, they hike fare arbitrarily and can terminate their journey anywhere.
All this while meek passengers sit there without saying anything. Matatu operators are backed by corrupt traffic officers, some of whom own the Matatus or get a bribe everyday.
Matatu’s are killing us because traffic police officers who are supposed to enforce the law have become protectors of impunity. To bring this into perspective, Kenyan activist organized a demo and it went down like this. See photos
