Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto is set to overthrow deputy President William Ruto as the Rift Valley political King Maker after unveiling his own political vehicle; Mashinani Development Party of Kenya (MDP).
MDP, Governor Ruto says, is the party that will change the landscape of politics in Kenya and Rift Valley and will play a pivotal role in determining the next President of Kenya and key leaders such as Governors, Senators and MPs in the vote-rich Rift Valley region.
According to Governor Ruto, the first litmus test of his party will be during Kericho Senatorial by-elections set for February 26th this year. The by-elections by occasioned by the resignation of Charles Keter upon appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for Energy by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
MDP will field a candidate to challenge Jubilee’s Franklin Bett, a former Cabinet Minister. Although Jubilee has not made it official, reports indicate that Bett is their best bet to replace Keter.
Other parties such as KANU, UDF and ODM will also field candidates for the position.
Governor Ruto has stood his ground that he will not join the Jubilee Alliance Party terming it as a party without an agenda.
