Students from Namboboto-Nambuku Ward, Samia Sub County have received bicycles to help them cover the long distance from their homes to schools.
The bicycle empowerment program which will target a total of 9 schools in the first phase is sponsored by the World Bicycle Relief in partnership with Child Fund Kenya Program, Lake Victoria Child Support Program and the Ministry of Education.
Busia’s governor’s wife Judy Ojaamong launched the program with Nyokabhi and Ganjala secondary schools becoming the first recipients with 120 students from each school benefiting from the Bufallo bicycles.

Child Fund Kenya program director Daniel Kinoti said they will monitor the bicycle usage and that they will open up more partnerships with the county government to increase and enable more deserving cases to benefit.
WBR country representatives Peter Wechuli said the education program started in 2015 to alleviate distance challenges and have day students arrive to school early enough and improve academic performance.
The bicycle program is also aimed at reducing s3xual abuse among girls and school drop outs. It will guarantee punctuality, retention of students, and safety of the girl child.
