I have spent my afternoon with Jackline Mwende-whose limbs were chopped in an assault, and her family at their home in Kathama village, Masii.
I am pleased Mwende is recovering well. The County Government of Machakos will unconditionally help in her journey back to recovery. The county government has committed to provide: free medical care including counseling until she is fully recovered; a housekeeper for a period of one year; pay for any prosthetics or medical equipment she might require; an ambulance and vehicle will be availed to take her to clinics and hospital for one year; train her so that she is employable and able to sustain herself. She will also receive a monthly stipend of Ksh30,000 for a period of one year.
Further, the Government will review and if need be extend this support after one year. I urge people to shun gender based violence and embrace peaceful coexistence.
During my visit I was joined by County Women Representatives Hons. Mary Seneta (Kajiado), Dr. Susan Musyoka (Machakos), Joyce Wanjala Lay (Taita Taveta), Rose Museo (Makueni) MYWO Machakos Chairlady Francisca Mutinda and Entrepreneur Esther Passaris.
