A Mega Dam that will Increase Water Supply in Nairobi to be Constructed in Kariminu River Gatundu, Kiambu County
Residents of Gituamba ward in Gatundu North, Kiambu county have accepted the construction of a mega dam that is meant to increase water supply to Nairobi, Ruiru and Juja will be constructed along Kariminu river.
Speaking during meeting that brought together stakeholders, leaders and residents at Buchana coffee factory, Athi waters company representative said that the residents have agreed for the dam to be constructed and the dam will be constructed at 351 hector that will affect more than 4,400 people in Gituamba, Kiriko, Mubao and Kanyoni areas and 26 families who will be affected directly will be relocated to other areas.
The dam that is said to be constructed by the national government in conjunction with World Bank and will increase water by 70,000 cubic meter per day, the residents are now urging the government to compensate them as per international standards when time for compensations comes, where their leaders urged the Athi water to be informing the residents, they also asked for irrigation water from the dam.
