Following the commencement of The Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2016; the subsequent receipt of the requisite Notices of Resignation from the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the eight (8) other Commissioners by His Excellency the President; and the declaration of Vacancies arising therefrom; the Parliamentary Service Commission forwarded to the Head of State the names of the consensus Nominees to the IEBC Selection Panel.
Accordingly, and in line with the First Schedule to the IEBC Act, H.E the President has today appointed the nine nominees to the Selection Panel; vide a Special Issue of the Kenya Gazette. The Members are:
four persons, being two men and two women, nominated by the Parliamentary Service Commission;

- Tom Mbaluto (Rtd) Justice
- Ogla Chepkemoi Karani
one person nominated by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops;
Bernadette W. Musundi
one person nominated by the National Council of Churches of Kenya;
Peter Karanja Mwangi (Rev.) Canon
one person nominated by the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims, the National Muslim Leaders Forum and the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya;
Abdulghafur H.S. El-Busaidy (Prof.)
one person nominated by the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya; and
David Oginde (Dr.) Bishop
one person nominated by the Hindu Council of Kenya.

His Excellency the President encourages all qualified Kenyans to respond to the sterling call to serve our Nation by applying for the position of Chairperson of the IEBC, as well as the positions of Commissioner – IEBC. Further, the Head of State urges the Public to participate in the pivotal exercise of selecting new Commissioners by voicing their views on the candidates who will be shortlisted by the IEBC Selection Panel.
