Machakos Deputy Governor on Friday reported that his daughter had been kidnapped and the gangsters hit him with a rather odd demand. Benard Kiala spent the better part of the day recording a statement at a Nairobi police station after his daughter went missing within the week.

The Wiper leader divulged that the kidnappers contacted his wife but did not ask for any money and instead demanded that he drops his bid for Machakos gubernatorial seat which, he had expressed interest in. “They want me to drop my gubernatorial ambition. I can’t talk much now but I will forward you the text sent to my wife this morning,” he was quoted by a local daily.

Kiala later disclosed that the message from the kidnappers stated: “We have your daughter alive. We will release her but tell you husband if he runs for governor it will not be the first attempt”.

Mr Kiala has been involved in constant disagreements with his boss, Governor Alfred Mutua, who at one time sort to drop him (Kiala) as his deputy, a move that backfired. He later declared interest in the gubernatorial position and is set to be among other politicians in the race to unseat Mutua who has since ditched Wiper and formed Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement.

Mutua, who has been hailed for his successful development projects stated that he would defend his seat on a Maendeleo ticket.
