Babu Owino arrested

Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) Chairman Babu Owino was on Thursday (January 5) 7:30 am arrested for creating disturbance at Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi, demanding the release of controversial businessman Chris Obure, who was on Wednesday apprehended for allegedly misusing a firearm.

Babu Owino stormed the police station, accompanied by a group of youth who reportedly insulted officers on duty.

Speaking to eDaily on phone, Kilimani Police division boss Peter Katam said Babu Owino will be charged with causing disturbance.

Mr Obure was involved in an altercation with a reveler at an entertainment joint in Kilimani. A report filed at Kilimani Police division said the scuffle arose after Mr Obure was called to the parking yard, where he had double-parked his vehicle, Range Rover model.

However, he pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot the customers who wanted to drive out of the yard.

Police said Mr Obure has in the past few months been caught up in at least five cases involving gun misuse in Nairobi.
