Mike Sonko has been sworn in as Nairobi’s second County Governor at the Uhuru Park.

In attendance was President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto, former governor Evans Kidero, deputy governor Jonathan Mueke and newly elected Woman Representative, Esther Passaris.

The governor has said that he will work round the clock to make sure that ‘Nairobi will never be the same again.’

He promised the end of the ‘cartel that has been holding the city hostage, enough water and no garbage within and without the city.’

During the event, Dr Evans Kidero conceded defeat and ensured a smooth power transition.

”I promised a smooth transition and I have no problem referring to Mike Sonko as my governor. I urge you to continue with the projects we started.”

Sonko last week rejected 25 million set aside for the occasion and directed that the money be used to pay county workers.

He said that the event was self sponsored with no contribution from the county government or the Ministry of Devolution.
