Peter Ndegwa, the newly-appointed Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has received an endearing message from his wife Jemimah following the announcement of his new gig.

Taking to Facebook, Mrs. Ndegwa congratulated her husband on his new position – which he assumes in April next year – and assured him of the family’s continued support and prayer.

She further commended him for his “hardwork, commitment and integrity,” adding that his risk-taking quality and experience are among the things that make him the right fit for the job.

“My dear, you always tell me that there is no short-cut to ‘real’ and ‘lasting’ success. Your appointment is proof that hardwork, commitment and integrity pay off,” she wrote.

“I have experienced first-hand the long hours and your commitment to self and others to achieve great things. You have taken risks – going to challenging markets but the experience you have gained, sets you apart.”

Mrs. Ndegwa further added: “I know, just as has been the case, integrity and humility will continue to be your trademark in this new role. We, your family, will continue to support you and pray for you. For exaltation does not come from the East, the West or the South, but from God.”

The new Safaricom boss, in a 2015 interview with Business Daily, commended his wife for being understanding and supportive of his career which required him to move around the world a lot.

“She has had to sacrifice a part of her own career as a marketer to raise our son,” he said, adding that “…I committed to be present for my family. I never leave my family when I move jobs, I travel with them.”

The lovely couple is blessed with one child, 10-year-old Ryan.

Peter Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC — a British multinational alcoholic beverages company — where he is the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe.

He has spent over 25 years in various roles within the Financial Services and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors in Africa and Europe.

In his current role, he oversees the operations of Diageo PLC in 50 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Middle East and North Africa region.

He had previously served for seven years as CEO in Guinness Nigeria PLC and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC.
