Legendary Kenyan rapper, Kantai, who was among the founders of hip-hop in the local showbiz scene, is dead.
According to sources, Kantai was confirmed dead on Wednesday afternoon after he was rushed to a local hospital.
Although the cause of his death is not yet known, Kenyan DAILY POST has learnt that the rapper has been battling alcoholism.
He has been in and out of the hospital and rehabilitation centers in various parts of the Country with the latest one being in Mombasa.
Kantai is the one who brought STL to the limelight after they did a massive collabo called Happy that topped the charts.
The rapper then stopped making music after he became an alcoholic.
Most of the time, he was spotted taking cheap liquor in backstreet drinking dens.
He
tried to make a comeback to the music scene by doing a collabo with Khaligraph Jones but the song didn’t do well.
Top Kenyan deejay, Dj Joe Mfalme, has confirmed Kantai ‘s death on his Instagram page and mourned him saying,”“Thank you for
the great music. Your legacy will live on. Rest easy Chris Kantai.”
