After earlier reports that the family and doctors were considering treatment in London, other factors led to a South Africa decision being made for further medical attention.

Former President Mwai Kibaki is hospitalized at Karen hospital after he fell ill at his Muthaiga residence in Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is among those who have visited the former president. Kibaki’s former coalition co-principal Raila Odinga has been briefed but was in Mombasa and information is that he will visit him any time from now.

Kibaki served as Kenya’s President for slightly over 10 years from 2002 to 2013, he was succeeded by the current President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The former president was appointed special envoy by United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), he traveled to Tanzania earlier last month July for a water conference.

The over 84-year-old who served as MP for Othaya in Nyeri lost his wife Lucy Kibaki in April this year while undergoing treatment at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.
