President Uhuru Kenyatta blamed independent government institutions for failing to deal with corruption at the accountability summit at State House in Nairobi.

  1. “As president, if there is one issue that has frustrated me, it is corruption. And I will say why. Because the pressure is on me. Show me any one administration since independence that has taken action on corruption like I have done,” he posed.

2. “Are we being serious or you are just joking with Kenyans? I have removed everybody who has ever been named on corruption. I have done my part, at great political expense by asking these guys to step aside,” said a visibly frustrated president.

3. “Then where do we go from there? They say, ‘I am innocent’. I don’t know where they are innocent or what, move aside.”

He dismissed the complaints regarding corruption saying those charged to deal with graft have all resources needed to deal with the culprits.

4. “I give a directive for action on corruption cases within three months and I’m told you don’t have the powers to do that. What do you want me to do?” he posed.

5. “I can’t appoint or sack a judge. My work is to sign whatever name is sent to me by the Judicial Service Commission.

6. Uhuru termed the statement ‘ongoing investigations’ as nonsense saying anyone responsible for corruption should be prosecuted even if it is Inspector General Joseph Boinnet.

7. “What do you want me to do? We have the Auditor General speaking of the issue of Euro bond… Why not single out who has stolen the money. Is it Uhuru? Why not prosecute them…. I cannot sack you… If the money was stolen say it as it is,” he said.

8. “The rule of law means the guilty should pay the price. Do you want me to set up an execution squad at Uhuru Park to fire people so that people can be happy?”
