The Sunday afternoon road crash saw Cynthia Akoth, meet her death after the matatu she had boarded veered off the road and overturned along the busy Langata Road in Nairobi, killing four and injuring several others. Ms Akoth was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition, but she succumbed to her injuries. She was a First Year, first semester student who had gotten admission to Multimedia University of Kenya early September, 2016 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Applied Communication.
cynthia-akoth-studentSpeaking in confidence to UdakuKE, Ms Akoth’s roommate said the deceased told her she was going to visit her aunt who lives in the outskirts of the city – and that happened to be their last conversation as she was never to return alive The two had hardly known each other for a month as they were both First Year students admitted to the varsity in the September intake Early Tuesday morning, Multimedia students took to the streets demonstrating her premature death.

akoth-cythia-420x420According to them, were it not for the drivers reckless driving, she’d still be alive. A student leader at the institution confirmed the passing on of Cynthia Akoth. Four of the people injured in the accident had life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the matatu lost control of the vehicle as he approached a roundabout and lurched sideways allegedly to avoid hitting a car. Police officers from Langata and KDF soldiers from the Langata Baracks as well as Kenya Wildlife Service rangers joined in efforts to free passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
