National Resistance Movement’s key strategist, David Ndii, has been arrested at Leopard Beach Hotel in Kwale with initial reports indicating that he was being held at Diani Police Station.

This comes two days after his appointment as the Principal of the opposition’s People’s Assembly National Steering Committee.

The whereabouts of Ndii remains unknown as the police and his party, NASA, give conflicting accounts.

Raila Odinga’s Communication Advisor, Salim Lone, said the family does not know his whereabouts because they could not find him at the Police Station.

“No reason was given for his arrest,” he said.

“NASA lawyers from Nairobi and the Coast are trying to locate where he is being held,” he added. Dr Ndii was arrested at around 5pm in a sting operation conducted, Service No 234336 & seven officers drawn from the Flying Squad and the Special Crime Prevention Unit.

Alenga told Ndii’s wife that they were taking her husband to Diani Police Station. Raila’s daughter, Winnie Odinga, joined her and they went straight Diani Police Station at around 9.30pm but they said the police did not want to talk to them.

At around 9.45pm, a number of police cars checked into Diani Police Station and left immediately. Winnie Odinga believes Dr Ndii was transferred to a secret facility within Mombasa or far off in Nairobi.

There were rumours that Ndii’s wife and Winnie were arrested later for leaking information about his arrest to Kenyans.
