Even as parents contend with the increased fees in various schools across the country and the education stakeholders led by Education CS Fred Matiang’i, KNUT and KUPPET agreed to adhere to the set guidelines, President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked parents to pay the increased school fees and claim refund from his government.
This is despite the President agreeing to the fact that education, and more so Secondary School education, is free in Kenya.
In what most people have termed as unprecedented move, it is not clear whether the government, with the struggling economy, will be in a position to refund such huge amounts to parents.
The announcement by the President through his twitter handle read; “Secondary education is FREE in Kenya. I urge parents to pay the INCREASED fees and claim REFUND from my government. Inconvenience regretted.”
